Whoa! I have not posted in a while…

Yeah, there I go again. I tend to forget to post things as they come up. I will do my best to remedy that. I did manage to get out this weekend and catch “The A-Team”. It was rather enjoyable. It had a good mix of serious, comedy, and action. I also think they did a pretty decent job at capturing the original show’s gestalt.

Beardsman!

The kind and awesome people of Beardsman.com have offered me the opportunity to donate a piece of my artwork to their silent auction. The auction is part of a bigger event… Bay of Beards 2010. Bay of Beards is an annual Beard and Moustache Contest sponsored by Beardsman.com. Bay of Beards is a fundraiser for a mentally ill homeless charity. All of the proceeds from this fundraiser benefit the Beardsman Foundation. Go and check out the Charity section on the Beardsman web-site to find out more info. I will update with some sketches and ideas for the piece that I will be submitting.

Restaurants, Diners, & Cafes #2 The Hill Cafe

The Hill Cafe is a small establishment with a tavern feel. It has booth seating and a bar. It has a relaxed, “come on by” sorta vibe. It does pick up at night and get a little bit more busy. There are plenty of food options, specials, and wines. They serve interesting appetizers, soups, sandwiches, and entrees. The servers are rather relaxed, attentive, and helpful.

My sister was in town and this was one of the first places we went to. The crowd was comprised of downtown locals. Though, they did play a lot of Dave Mathew’s Band… haha

Hours: Mon – Sat: 11:30am – 2:00am Sun: 10:30am – 2:00am Brunch: Sun: 10:30am – 12:30am

Prices range from $7 – $20

Restaurants, Diners, & Cafes #1 The Village

It dawned upon me that, although I enjoy cooking, I also enjoy eating at various restaurants, diners, and cafes. So, I think that I am going to keep a sort of journal on the places I go to. I already have a Moleskine ready to go for some note taking action. I will supplement my notes with some images and I will be posting them here, on my site. If there are any places that you would recommend, go ahead and send them my way. I would love the check them out and do a little write up on them.

The Village

What can I say, The Village is a staple in Richmond. I have been going to this place for years. The food has always been delicious and they have a rather descent variety of food choices. The waitstaff has always done a good job at taking care of me.

The mood in there is rather relaxed. Also, it is usually a good mix of people. You will have your share of college kids and Richmond locals. At night, that dynamic changes slightly, but not by much. The lights are dimmer and the mood seems a bit darker, but, in delightful contrast, the food and service is never diminished. If you’re in Richmond, you need to stop by.

I will try to take some better pictures. I just realized how crappy these photos are. That is completely my fault.

Cupcake #1 – Red Velvet with Cream Cheese Icing

Ok, so I went ahead and took the plunge at making cupcakes from scratch. My sister is going to be coming into town for her birthday. So, I decided to make her some cupcakes. Though, I wanted to make them from scratch. I figure, the more effort I put into making them, the more special they will seem. I planned on doing a test run. Just to make sure I don’t screw them up royally when she arrives. Here are some pics of what went on.

The mix is coming together. Took a lot more food coloring than anticipated.

While the cupcakes were baking, I went ahead and put together the icing. I still have a ton of it left over… awesome!

Timer went off, pulled the cupcakes out of the oven… now, time to cool off.

Time to start putting everything together.

They turned out really good. I was rather surprised at myself. Not to mention the fact that I managed to not burn down my kitchen! haha I had a really good time making these delicious little bastards. My friends Jason and Heather came over to do some taste testing. I got two thumbs up! Hopefully, my sister will enjoy them as well. I think that I am going to attempt to complete a recipe a week. So, keep checking up on me and I will do my best to make some splendid treats every week! If you have any questions, or just want some cupcakes, let me know! haha

Note: Don’t wear clothes that you wish to wear in public again. I got all kinds of crap on me. haha

I want to thank everyone for coming out on Friday night! I had a great time. A lot of people showed up and showed their support. Much obliged! There were some casualties though… about 200 chicken nuggets, 30 twinkees, and numerous cupcakes. A crowd hungry for art and delicious delicious treats! Will post some pics soon!
